Well, as some of you know, I'll be "turning traitor" over the next few days. No, I don't mean I'll be going from Qeynos to Freeport...

I bought my copy of WoW on my lunch hour today. I know many of you don't plan to play it, and some of you are totally against this game. I don't wanna start another one of those debates here. Just letting you know that I'll be MIA for a bit while I give this game a try.

If anyone IS planning on playing WoW, post here and we can try to coordinate servers. Cya all in game

We need to demote you then from patron status otherwise it will kill the guild rank. You will lose all your status points so you need to spend them.

We need to do this tonight if possible please.

I can probably still manage to get online for an hour or so a few nights a week to knock out some City Tasks. They are pretty easy at this point - I can solo through most of them. At least that way I won't be hurting the guild status any.

Unless you feel like you have to demote me, in which case that's fine. I've only got about 7000 status points... not sure I can buy much with that anyway.

I'm not gone completely... just not on as much.

So you're saying I mean nothing to you? Have you forgotten this already?

Hehe just try to crank out your city tasks as much as you still can. With 12 patrons we loose 1 yellow of guild exp every day Sad

Wow is incredable, it is the best of this type of game I have played so far, mostly because of the ease of playing. The quests are quick and easy they are fun and you get a choice of rewards (usually from 2 or three things but sometimes several) the hotbars are the same as EQ2 (numbered so you can hit the keys quickly) but if you target an enemy that is too far away the number is red so you know. And the best thing is I can walk away, its not adictive 'cause I can't horde items. and guess what NO LAGG.

BUT

EQ2 is still my drug of choice and I plan on staying here becasue of the people, my question is can someone explain what being a patron is and is it worth it if I am only on here a couple of hours, four times a week? Can I help the guild in other ways better?

Being a patron means that you are willing to do regular city tasks. The city tasks are soloable at about 18, and you can do four in less than an hour. Regular means that you'll do like 7 per week.

As the guild levels the city tasks will get harder. So if you're a patron there's a need to be resonably up with progression.

Since your main focus is tradeskilling, bieng a patron would not be my recommendation. You can help the guild by staying up on your tradeskilling and helping us out in that aspect. Be sure to let the adventurers know what you need from them to help you progress to the next stages in tradeskilling.

I'm sure Mikara likes WoW because the tradeskilling is TONS better than in EQ2!! I messed with tradeskilling a little in EQ2 Beta and it was so damn complicated and confusing that I haven't even tried looking at it since release.

In WoW I'm already pretty far along as a Leatherworker, and have even made myself a set of armor that is better than anything I've found/quested for. Money is tight in WoW, so buying new armor is pretty much out of the question.

Overall, that's got to be the biggest thing WoW has over EQ2 right now - Much Better Tradeskilling. Other than that. The two games are pretty equal in my book - both are a lot of fun to play, don't have the timesinks of EQ1, and are playable either Solo or Grouped. I'm enjoying both games quite a bit.

Oh, and the other cool thing about WoW... DEATH! Twisted Evil

Call me silly, but I think when you die is the coolest part of the game! It's kinda the opposite of EQ. If you get killed you end up back in the graveyard of the nearest town, but you are only a ghost. The whole world is all "whitewashed" and all you hear is this whipping wind noice - kinda like Frodo looking at the eye in LotR. Anyway, you have two choices when you die. In the graveyard is the Spirit Healer, who you can pay to ressurect you. This way you don't have to go get your corpse if you don't want to. It costs money but I'm not sure how much since I've neber done it. The other option is to run back to your body. It's a really neat system. Below are a couple screenshots of what it looks like:

My Tauren Shaman, Anguss, has met his untimely death at the hands of a Plains Stalker and is a ghost in the graveyard:

Here's Anguss running back to retrieve his body:

And finally, Anguss is back and ready for more! (notice the skeleton on the groud behind him... after you recover your body it always leaves a skeleton where you died which fades away after a bit - kinda a neat little added effect)

I know I'm not going to sell many of you on trying out the game, but it's fun to share this stuff with ya. But if you are going to give the game a try let me know!

Can someone elaborate on this? The timesink problem has been my biggest obstacle of entering the EQ2 world.

Very nice screenshots btw Buch.

Remember how in EQ1 you would log in and sit there for a half hour or even a whole hour before you found something to do? You would have to look for a group, or if you wanted to solo and farm for tradeskills or whatever you'd have to travel thru 10 zones to find out that the camp you wanted was already taken?

Well forget all about that. In both games - WoW and EQ2 - there is NEVER nothing for you to do. The minute you log in you can start playing the game and doing things that are actually WORTH the time and effort you put into them.

If you've only got a hour or two... or even if you just wanna jump online and play for 30 minutes... you can work on a quest or find some some MOBs to solo. Solo'ing is very possbile in both games, tho I would give the nod to WoW on that - you will find times in EQ2 that you run into a quest or something that you do have to have a group to do it. But when that happens there is always something else you can do solo.

Basically, they made both games so that noone ever logs on and is bored. For me that's the best part of it! Hope to cya in one or the other soon Goth!

P.S.... Play WoW... I need some friends there! Wink

Here's my biggest question about EQ2: Has anyone tried playing it on a 56k modem? Or perhaps they know someone who does and can answer as to how well it works; if at all.

I actually connect even slower than 56k, but I'm at least used to being hindered by it.

Hey Goth! I've been bouncing around servers lately, but I think I've finally settled on one! I've got some real life frineds who are playing the game and we've all congregated together.

We are on a Central server called "Alleria". Look for my characters:
Rogar - Human Paladin
Keebler - Night Elf Hunter

Or, you can try to catch my friends and let them know who you are and that you're looking for me:
Narnia - Night Elf Hunter
Kindredz - Night Elf Druid

Or... an even cooler way to get in touch with me... there is a Mailbox outside the bank in all the major cities. You can actually leave messages for people at the mailbox, and then when they log in they get a little "you've got mail" icon that pops up. Leave me a message at a mailbox and let me know what your character's name is.

*Note - the mail and /tells only work if you're on the same "side" - Alliance can't talk to or send mail to Horde, and vice versa. So if you plan to play Horde let me know here on the boards and I'll create a Horde character so we can hang out!
