So there are so many similarities between EQ2 and WoW that I've often wondered which was the innovator and which was the copycat. I wonder if there is truth to that comic - Woody clearly portrays WoW as the copycat. Yet when I returned to EQ2 after a few months off I found it has a lot of new features that were in WoW since day one of release. Granted, the "new features" were always in the game... they just weren't activated or visible to the players until recently... riiiiiiight Wink

Now I just wish WoW would figure out a way to copy EQ2's server setup so 75% of the servers don't crash or need restarting on a nightly basis.

Only thing I'm aware of is making everything attunable, which I'm thankful for in the aftermath. It's made things a lot more valuable and in the long run that's a good thing.

Well to be honest, to me it does not matter who did what. If it makes whichever game better and more fun to play. Then I am glad for the competition now! it sure makes things more....exciting i guess....

Just adds that flavor of....you know what giant monopoly time to make some big decisions and make people happy! Wink

If I had to be honest, I'd say that the competition between EQ2 and WoW is benefiting EQ2 players more than WoW players.

It is so glaringly obvious that Blizzard is still new to the MMORPG genre - they haven't learned how to really deal with a player community as demanding as MMORPG players! For as much as we used to complain about SOE I give them credit. In the time since release EQ2 has seen so many changes and updates. WoW has seen almost nothing. The coolest thing Blizzard did was put some Holiday content into the game around Chirstmas time - and all that was just "fluff" anyway. It didn't really make the game any better.

Renvik would feel very vindicated if he spent any amount of time on the Blizzard forums. People are VERY angry on there, and every other post is about how crappy Blizz is doing at fixing issues in the game and releasing new content. Of course the fanbois are still there, defending Blizzard to the end. But I am noticing a shift in the attitudes. People are starting to get impatient, and rightly so. Myself, I still enjoy the game enough to give it maybe another few months before I would think about leaving.

You have to give credit to SOE - even if their ideas aren't original, they are moving EQ2 forward. It's very easy to see how the 5+ years of experience they have from Everquest is benefiting them, and their customers.

I have a feeling thats exactly what SoE was hoping for....

Was the inexperianced WoW would falter under the high demand and small demands most MMORPG's gamers want to see. New content change. SoE had the luxury of starting out in a fairly new environment and had time to make mistakes with most of us shrugging our shoulders because we had no clue what to expect. Neither did they.

My hope is that WoW will survive and give everyone a better opportunity to enhance the competition to not leave SoE in the Reins so to speak of the monster of MMORPG's and forget about the players ( I am in the grey with this. I think SoE do somewhat care and try, but I still see the money making schemes behind the scenes sometimes.) Still that is just a generalization and not totally fair.

Sorry to hear that about WoW tho. In the GU forums where this original comic came from I still hear the more goods of WoW with many saying. Well my server is perfect and we never have a queue, or well even tho i am on one of the three worst servers I still love the game. Well thats good and all but again "Its no fun to pay for a game you cant always play because of inexperiance." With some time on their hands now, and no sign of a change yet ( i dont read the boards so still maybe generalization ) for the server issues its gonna be a rough few months for Blizzard and its players i believe.

Funny thing is, for the longest time my server, Alleria, had no problems. Then a few weeks ago - maybe a month - they tried a "fix" to make things run a little smoother, especially in the main Dwarf City, Ironforge, where the Auction House is located. (think EQ1 Bazaar lag x10 !!!)

Anyway, ever since the "fix" Alleria has been running horrible. It has had to be restarted quite frequently, and some nights it just downright crashes. It has been frustrating. Only twice have I experienced a "que" to log in, and both times I was only about 30 people deep in the que, so I was on in less than a minute. The only reason there was even a que to begin with is because they had to take about half the servers down, so you had twice the normal amount of people trying to log into a single server.

Since Alleria has had these problems I've made new characters on a new server and whenever Alleria is acting up I just go play on this other server. It's a relatively new server with a low population, so I've never had a bit of trouble logging on and playing there. /knockonwood

So yeah, I guess I'm one of those people that fall into the category of "it hasn't been bad enough to make me want to quit..." But I've heard the Horror stories and I can totally understand how some people might be fed up.
