So, anyone pick up Vanguard yet? I like the character class/race selections, kinda like old school EQ. I'm in Colorado for 2 more weeks, but think it might be worth picking up since i'll be 10 lvls behind everyone in WoW.

Heya Jason, nah you wont be 10 levels...well maybe close. Some of us have picked up Vanguard. I have a toon on there named Khain, he is or will be a drunken monk. Don't remember the server name yet. Feels a little like eq2, some say eq1 but I didn't play that one. Little laggy at times. but overall seems really like any other mmo so far.

I return on Thursday and am thinking of picking it up. Which server are you all on, and what class's so far? I'm looking at the following in order:

Psionicist - main choice

Druid - second choice

Cleric - third

Bard - fourth

Rogue - fifth

And how does it seem to run on your computers? My system specs are:

AMD 64 4000+
2G Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Memory
nVidia 6600 GT

Have a dwarf warrior named Bucket. The server we are on is Targonor. Running AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core 4600+, 1 gig ram and Geforce 6800 and at times I catch some decent lag at times. Think if I had more ram it would help. Think there are some memory leak issues at play here also. The game doesn't seem nearly as brutal as people posted it would be. There are some factions that you have to watch for. Some of the races just don't like each other and you have to kill to raise your faction or they might attack you. Also you are more than likely not gonna start near some of us depending on what race you pick. you might not even start on the same island and from what I can tell you might not even be able to leave that continent you start on until you get a boat. Anyway that's my 2 cents man. I like it. My fat dwarf warrior rocks Laughing

I might role a Dwarf Cleric after reading Clerics are a heavy plate class. And specialize in:

Affinity: Life
Deity: Gloriann
Ability: Increased hit point buffs, increased potency for poison cures, and increased constitution buffs

Hi all,

I picked up Vanguard over the weekend. I have some lag with Pent 4 with 2gig ram, but I haven't traveled around too much. They say there is no zoning, but I can tell when a new zone is loading...kind of glitchy.

I'm still figuring out stuff. Not sure what Diplomacy does....

Orazio --> Vulmane (Gnoll) Druid 7th level on Targonor.

Druid is more of a spell caster than a healer.

I'll have to see which machine it works better on, wifes is a:

P4 3.2G with 1G of RAM and a nVidia Geforce 6800

If it seems to run better on her's I can swap out the 2G of gaming RAM from mine and take over her's.

Be prepared to lay witness to my uber healing prowless...

Think a lot of it has to do with the time you are playing also Jason. If I am on in the morning it seems a lot better than at night. I blame Sam for the lag anyway. He is the root of all evil with his cat toon.

Are there any race/class restrictions to be able to play with everyone or that create any kind of guild boundries like there was between Qeynos and Freeport in EQ2? Also, anyone want to PM me and Steph a trial key?

I can call ya man and give you the trial key...yes some of the races start on different continents. some start on the same continent but different areas of it. right now they have teleporters in the major cities that will let you go to each continent. sam and myself have used them to meet up with jason on his island. as far as making a guild, you have to have a full group of 6 people together around the guild register guy and whoever buys the guild thingy is the leader kinda like eq2 did it. since we are not on a pvp server i think any race that can get together for the initial 6 would be fine.

Looks fun, but what a jitter fest ><. It's kind of playable with quality and resolution turned all the way down, but I can't imagine I'd be able to play in a group.

I liked not zoning and I liked the diplomacy system, but I think you should also get normal xp when you complete diplomacy quests. I have to see it with better quality cause I can't see anything effects wise that says it's better than EQ2. I like EQ2s quest system better, this one is more like WoW but slightly more organized and very helpful with the waypoints.

There's a lot of things I'm glad to see that I was fearful wouldn't be there because of how EverQuest was originally designed by this guy:
- Fast repops
- Proximity triggered quest mobs, rather than having to camp
- Node locking and I'm guessing encounter locking
- Wide variety of classes and utility

Things I'm not happy to see:
- Trains
- Corpse runs

Overall looks fun, but I have to talk Steph into letting me buy one of these to keep playing.

Here is my limited take.

Graphics when turned on is very pleasing and cool looking.
Characters have some resemblance to abilities, spells in EQ.(This part I really like). Very Happy
There seems to be a good balance between ablities and spells and killing a mob solo and in group. Smile
Special moves for chain attacks. Wink
The ability to chain or expand attack, accomplishes what it is supposed to and that is make you pay attention to your attacks and not just mash buttons. There is also alot more interaction with MOB attacks to stop or counter act them. Smile
No zones. Smile
Mounts at 10 and mountable on the run. Very Happy
Quest set up is very good with waypoints.
MAP sucks... Rolling Eyes maybe fixed with UI
Over all I like the game.

Takes 1337 skills to play the rogue. I thought at first the Ranger would require skill to play as well, but Mike seems to be successful at it so obviously no skill required. And it is official, the new guild name is Para Bellum, soon as I kick the cold.

Whatever NUB...just cause you get to hide around in some shadows doesn't mean you know how to use a dagger. It take a LOT of skill to mow through foes with my ranger...OK really it doesn't he is overpowered with the bow haha. If anyone would like to know why we are changing names from what we started with...just ask Jason. It's a very funny story. Also ya might want to let people know what that name means in case they get asked. DOUBLE EXP THIS WEEKEND....catch me if you can Twisted Evil

I think Jason was thinking that Peach Blossom sounds tougher as Para Bellum. Maybe he could find some other dead language to use for the name Death by Chocolate? Idea

Hi all!

Both Laurren and I got to kick it around in beta for a bit and we liked how healers are not always sitting in the back just healing. The Disciple was fun, and she really took to the blood healer.

I had fun playing a Shadow Knight and I did enjoy the game. I am thinking of picking me up a copy and only play the 30 days until we get things settled down around here.

Trying to move to Texas! Heya Steph and Brad!

Still overall I liked the game and the flavor it brought so again what lvls is everyone and what server if you might have changed?
