darlin! you rock!
tell me... what sort of PC system are you running and how's the performance?
the only thing that has me second guessing EQII is my pc,
1gig pro, 512 ram, 128 geF2 video... hoping I can get past character creation without lagging LD! but from what I am reading it's gonna be close _________________

My character is Kaerai. I am lvl 6 now hehe. So far I am the only Barb chick I have seen. Tons of wood elves and suprisingly erudites and gnomes.
Just an FYI for all those worried about lag etc. If you set the system requirements to high performance you run GREAT and don't really sacrifice a whole lot of quality. This is on my puter which is a P4, 2.53 ghz, 1 gb ram. Video card GForce 5200. _________________

you're still 1.5X the processor and double the ram of my dinosaur, which I can see making a HUGE difference.
have you got a PC a little more out of date (like mine) you can try it on? or a laptop? if you get a chance maybe load it on rrik/laurren's machine? their system is similiar to mine if I remember right.
I am DIEING to know how the game will run before I
(1) run out and upgrade (not gonna happen unless they are giving stuff away)
(2) decide to play WoW (very unlikely)
(3) stick with EQ "original" (possible)
and oh... how can you be here posting when the software is on your machine calling to you... _________________

You will have to upgrade if you plan on running EQII without pulling your hair out. You are probably at the bare minimum right now to run it and I have seen on the forums the low enders having crash and lag problems. _________________

this is NOT the news I am looking for...
...sigh...
oh well, 8 hours left on bittorrent to DL the character creation disc. guy on my old monk board says it will give a good indication of system performance.
GRRRR...
my PC is max'd atm. last time I took it in they up'd the ram to 512 - no more slots left, and a new processor would require a whole new motherboard...

LOL. I am going to get a new motherboard for abou 80 bucks. You should check with Lud on what you need. We have a puter store here where we get our parts for really good prices. _________________

ok, i'm not a total idiot when it comes to PC's... I've known what part I want put into the box, just never built it myself.
how much work/room for error is there if I want my motherboard only upgraded? is it plug and play (rip out old, plug in new MYSELF, log into EQII?) or do I actually hafta know what I am doing? pay someone else to do it? am I going to run into compatibility problems using my old spare parts (vid cards, ram etc)
I can't afford a whole new box, besides my vid card/HD and all the other junk is fine, I would just like a >2.0 processor and maybe 1 gig of ram... _________________

There is no maybe on the 1 gig of RAM. I was running on 512 on SWG and I was laggggg laggggg lagggg. I was frustrated cuz Lud could run it perfectly on his puter and the only difference really between ours is he has a better video card and more RAM. So we took a long shot and upgraded my RAM to 1 gig and crossed our fingers that I wouldnt have to get a new video card to fix my lag issues. Sure enough it worked like a charm and runs nearly flawlessly. I think it was 80 bucks for the 1 gig memory chip vs. 200 for the video card . I think Lud has some stuff he wants to say about your puter and will be posting it when he gets to work.
Lud built his turbo puter for 900 bucks and that includes his 200.00 video card and flashy glowy light 80.00 case. So if you take out some of the extra bells and whistles you could probably have a new system for around 600 bucks. _________________

ya for that kind of $$$ i can get a pretty smokin machine to, it's the $$$ that's killer
I tried to go to 1gig ram, but apparantly the type of ram I have comes in 256 strips max, and I only have 2 slots...
i am HOPING that i can just plug and play a new motherboard. bleh, i guess i could just pay the $40 for the labour and have the tech do it, but that's IF the rest of my junk is compatable.
we'll see... there's always RL if all else fails (no really, I know someone who knows someone who thinks he saw someone with a life) _________________

Sounds like you have a Pentium 3 currently Smawl. There really isn't a way to upgrade bits and pieces in that situation, as everything is totally different on a Pentium 4 system. It means you would need a new motherboard, CPU, ram and eventually video card. Only thing you can really keep is your hard drive
You could look to AMD chips though. They are a lot cheaper, so you could save money on the CPU. In all you're looking at about the following breakdown:
Motherboard: $60-$80
CPU: $100 (Athlon XP 2600+) or $183 (Pentium 4 2.8GHz)
RAM: $160
Course that's all american so add a valuable body part and you have the price in Canadian.
Buying those 3 components and putting them into your system really isn't that difficult, just a little daunting if you're unfamiliar. Really it's just screw it all down, snap it in and turn it on. There isn't any kind of extra configuration that there used to be.
This is to get something to run EQ2. I have to turn off a lot of stuff to get my brand new machine at a playable level, but it still looks really good. WoW on the other hand would probably run just find on your current machine. _________________

P3
and from what I am reading on the WoW boards I might even have trouble with that (raids/crowded city etc)
SWG only ran laggy for me when instanced items first "spawned", other than that combat, even 30 people PvP, wasn't too bad. (cities on the other hand dropped me to maybe 1FPS). I am assuming even EQII with most options /off is still more of a hog?
sigh... oh well, will start shopping for deals... or will cya in WoW _________________

ok looking inside my machine...
it looks like there are 3 ram slots, 2 full (2 256s). is there a reason why the third is not/can not be used? when i went from 256 to 512 the guy said that was the max...
so now the other question... if i replace the motherboard (looks easy enough) is there bios stuff that has to be adjusted? or just drop it in and plug in all the other junk?
i know you can't mix and match ram, but is it simple enough to find out if my old ram would fit in a new motherboard? _________________
