So far Fable is everything they promised and maybe a bit more!
I think they designed it in the direction that most games seem to be going nowadays. You don't pick a character "class" when you start and you really never do. You have the option of spending your experience points in any of three categories: Strength. Skill and Will, and those three categories are broken down even futher into subcategories and in the case of Will it's broken down into individual spells. (Will is their word for "mana") So if you wanna be a melee fighter type you concentrate on spending exp in Strength, Rangers and Rogue types concentrate on Skill, and Magic Users concentrate on Will. But nothing restricts you from ever spending exp in another category whenever you want. I've been spreading my points around trying everything with this first character, but I'm already thinking of starting a second character that goes strictly magic because some of the spells in the game are pretty freaking cool!
Just like KotOR you can choose to go the path of Good or Evil. Again, I've been playing it goody-goody the first go around, but I'm thinking my Magic User is gonna be royally evil!
It's got a very easy quest system that keeps you moving along the main story line but also gives you plenty of options for doing little side quests here and there. Plus, people you meet all over the world will also ask you to do little side quests too. There's plenty to do and see - you can spend a LOT of time just exploring and never even take on a quest.
Combat is pretty much Hack & Slash, but they throw a couple nice twists in - like a "finishing move" if you make enough hits in a row without your opponent returning a hit on you. They also have a "combat multiplier" that charges up as you hit your opponents. The more hits you string together the higher the multiplier goes and then the more exp you earn for killing stuff.
All in all it is a lot of fun to play and pretty laid back. I'd say it takes less than half an hour to really get the hang of it, and then you're off and running. Only real drawbacks are that you get little customization of the appearance of your character early on. (this is because you are following a very strict story line) Later you can change appearance with clothing, haircuts, beards, tattoos, etc... but that doesn't come until later. And for the ladies... sorry, but you can only be a guy in this game. Also when you interact with NPCs the conversation is always one-sided... they talk and you listen. You don't really get a chance to interact with NPCs other than to say "Yes, I'll do what you ask", or "No, not interested right now" My only other complaint would be the way the game saves. If you're in the middle of a quest you can't save the game. If you do, you only save your "character" not your progress in the quest - meaning you'll be able to save your exp, items, etc... but you'll have to start the quest all over again when you play again. So you learn to finish your quests and then save between quests before you take a new one, and if you don't have time to finish a quest you don't start it until your next play session. Which is no biggie - if I know I don't have time to finish a quest I just go exploring!
Anyway - lots of cool stuff about Fable - I prolly missed a bunch of stuff that I could have told you, but lunch time is over and I gotta get back to work! |

Well... I found the downside to Fable. It's WAY to short and easy to solve.
In roughly two weeks I already played out the entire story line. I was really expecting something a bit more involved that would take longer to complete. But the end just kinda snuck up on me and surprised me. I was playing along and decided to take a quest - next thing I know I'm in the final battle with the main Villan of the game, and *PooF* I win and the game is over.
And it felt very rushed at the end - almost like they had a deadline to meet and so the developers just said, "OK, how can we wrap this up quickly...?" I would say the total content of the game is at least half of the content of KotOR - if not less. Seriously - don't buy this game. Rent it for two weeks and you'll have more than enough time to solve it and take it back.
All and all - very disappointing end to a game that had SO much potential.
So tell me... how do you like SW Battlefronts? I played the Demo that comes with the SW Trilogy box set, and it felt to me EXACTLY like a SW version of Battlefield 1942... not that that's a bad thing - but I was never a huge fan of those types of games.
It was fun to fly around on the speeder bikes tho! |

Well it is a big time war game. If your are a Star Wars Fan like i am.....not too far mind you.....just enough to buy all movies that come out even if i already have them on vhs first. Also i buy video games and this one is good. Kind of simple, but i like it because many times you have to use strategy to win the game.
Graphics are pretty good, i dont think the maps are big enough for certain battles especially ones with Airships involved, but all around i give the game an 7.5.....the .5 is because i love star wars and playing out certain battles like Hoth and your the rebels trying to defend the base is a BLAST!!!! VERY VERY HARD, but sooo fun.
Then playing the Empire side of it being a pilot to control an AT-AT is an absolute blast as you cackle at each death you cause to the rebels. ohhhhh its an empowering feeling. Again, if you are not one for these games its a definate renter and have some friends who have an xbox to do some Lan games.
Reason for that and this is a terrible dissapointment in my mind. In the single player game you get some good maps to look at where things are happening and what bases you control, but when you get multi-player involved the map becomes so small you cant see anything or where you want to respawn when you die. all around its a pretty good game. I love it! _________________ Tanadel Talonleaf - Great Grandchild of Tanadil Truecaller of EQ1---lvl 54 Ranja
