Okay I will be picking up my copy of EQ2 tonight hopefully, if not then it will be first thing in the morning.
So here is some advice and strategy for beginning your EQ2 adventure:
1. Create you character (duh) MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON UNREST!
2. Make sure you complete as many Isle of Refuge quests as possible. I am not sure if they are switching things around, but there at least 13 quests you can do there and all have pretty good rewards!
3. Do your citizenship quest in your hometown.
4. Go to every damn city and start cranking out the /hail to EVERY NPC you come accross. Some quests suck, but there are many of them that give awesome rewards and good EXP. Collect as many quests as your quest journal will allow. As you go from town to town collecting you will also be completing quests as many of the quests require you to visit another town. Some of the quests are progressive too (meaning you complete one small quest and then they give you a harder quest until you finally complete the cycle and get a really good reward).
The reason quest collecting is important is that lots of the quests require you to kill 10 timber wolves and you may have another quest that only requires you to kill 5. This allows you to kill two birds with one stone. This also improves the probability that your buddy also has this same quest.
A few recommended quests:
Dancer in Antonia by the Claymore. Really nice ring as a reward and it's also a progressive quest after you get the ring (I didn't finish it).
Badger pelts in Baubleshire from the armorsmith standing near one of the zone entrances(really nice bracer)
Rat tails in Baubleshire from the armor/weapon store (nice shield)
Elf chick in Graystone Yard Armory (can't remember her name) Next to the mender. She gives you a nice weapon as a reward.
All four of the above quests are EASY and gives you much needed gear (Qeynos quest). Now if they have switched things around a bit since they took down beta I can't say, but this is how they were before hand.
Questing is an AWESOME way to gain experience, money, gear, and familiarity with your new world. Just gather as many quests as you can. Do them by cities to make it easy, i.e. collect all quests from Graystone, then move over to Baubleshire, Castleview, Nettleville, etc. etc. etc.
Same goes for you FP goers. _________________

for all your quest info
it's gonna be a mess for the first little while till everyone adjusts to the game/play times etc. I will probably explore a bit and mess with tradeskills before I get into levelling/questing.
and oh, post your character names somewhere hear _________________

And if you want to be loved, play a priest (dru, shm, clr). There were very few of these in beta, and that may continue into live. _________________

| Well, no, because any healer will do, and a mezer from what I've seen is just a nice extra. There's other methods of crowd control, and every priest can rez so a cleric is not an absolutely must have. Druids and Shamans do just fine. |

Well, I have my disks in hand I found an EB that was selling them today! $$$
I'll install this evening and try to see if servers are up after Midnight!!!
I'm think I'm going to be a Druid as my main in Qeynos, and a Ratonga Summoner for my Alt in Freeport.
Also, as for quests...
My personal favorite for quests were the "Creature Mastery" quests. Every now and then when you kill a MOB you get a LORE body part off them. For example, when you're ont he Isle of Refuge at the beginning of the game you kill a LOT of Goblins. They will drop goblin body parts - like a Heart, Eye, Tooth, Spirit, etc... There are usually 6 or 8 different pieces to collect.
If you get them all you can find a merchant who will sell you a book about that race of MOB. Buying the book is a little expensive - usually about 12 silver - BUT it's worth it. After you buy the book and read it you can "study" each of the body parts to learn more about the enemy. Then you get a real nice bonus spell or attack which basically ROCKS against that creature type. And the higher level you get, the stronger that attack becomes!
I did these quests for Goblins, Orcs and Skeletons, and was working on Zombies and Gnolls - they are definitely worth the effort!
.....
CYA ALL ON UNREST SOON!!!
