A friend of mine is thinking of playing SWG. I told him to forget it and play EQ2 instead. He asked why, and I honestly couldn't tell him because I never played SWG.

If you have to make the arguement as to why NOT to play SWG what would you say? Or would you recommend it?

In my opinion SWG is good for your first step into MMORPGS or whatever other names they have out there for them. Its great for beginners because its fairly simple and gameplay is simple.

Not to say anything about those that played it. I played SWG because i am a star wars nut and i wanted to try it out.

Problems i had with SWG for one is its too simple. You start a character and the first thing you do is start doing quests for money and experiance. Its not too bad but thats about it. You continuesly do the same quests over and over again (no new content).

Second you complete the proffessions in no time, and there is no rewarding feeling of accomplishment that you decide to change your proffession over and over and over again.

Third reason why I had to quit playing is how they changed the set up for becoming a jedi. When it first came out it was a mystery and very very difficult to get.
Now Jedi are dime a dozen and clans and dark jedi are killing the PvP and everything else. Not balanced in my mind.

I am sure Mike, Seela, Mikara could explain more whether they like it or not. But i got tired of alot of imbalances and changes that were not for the better i believe for the game. My vote is they should play a game where they have friends and others to help them along in the process. EQ2!!!!

disclaimer: Things could have changed from the last time i played the game, but from one who beta tested and played for about a total of 6 months. The game got old real fast for being so new and fresh! Razz

I like it and still play it but then I can keep entertained over the darndest things and I'm a total social creature so SWG is great for me cuz I can go fight and do whatever and still talk to people the whole time. But then I'm a nut that way, generally have 3 to 10 convo's going on at any one time. That has cut way back since I don't play hardly at all as I'm easing into the eq2 mindframe, about to play for the first time.
Anyways, you can ultra design your characters the way you want so you really can do individual things. It's easy to figure out how to move around and you only need a couple keys at first to play and you can slowly learn them from there on. Yeah, it likely is a great game for beginners, it's my first multi player. The thing I like is that I can always find something to do, it's not too intimidating as long as I maintain a master profession unless I take on something well beyond me like the Corvette. It takes more than one person.
Would I pick it again as a first? not sure, but I always liked star wars and a certain wookiee always mooned me so I guess it was funny too. Thats something I really like and I think EQ2 does it too is the emotes and interaction.
As far as content is concerned, it seriously depends on how much you plan on playing. Maxing out a profession isn't what holds the interest in the game but doing things together as a group I think, and some of the special events and very much the jedi thing and of course the JTL. I've heard that there is a space storyline that you only learn about as you hit the top pilot levels and there is a lot of plans for that stuff in the future. Most everyone is in space now anyway and it's a lot of fun, as it is new. Get leveled up and everyone that is at the high levels seem to still be having quite a bit of fun but I think the space thing is what will save SWG.

Can't speak for everyone. Space makes the game antisocial, very hard to talk while in space. But, it's a nice twist. Anyways, I would say hard core gamers might not like the lack of content although they do give ya new things to do, just not enough I guess. It's more than plenty for me as I never get anything done anyway but if I want to, I can always feel good at the end of a hard day after work by doing something and getting through it.

So I think it depends on what you want outta the game. SWG is fun and all. It may not be the type for everyone though.

within 3 weeks of starting SWG I had a full house, 2 suits of the best armor, a stockpile of the best weapons, and 5 million credits in the bank.

honestly, it was just too easy, and all that was left to do was run missions, do a little PVP (with a pile of other people who were fully decked out with top of the line gear) and decorate your house.

granted things have changed A LOT since I quit (only lasted 3 or 4 monthes) but I just didn't find the lure of STAR WARS enough to make the game worth continuing.

Longevity is the only problem with SWG. You can do just about everything there is to do within a few months of play. Content is another issue for me. The game is fun, but the depth to it was lacking. No real raiding or accomplishments as a guild like what you see in EQ. It is a fun casual game though. So if it is someone who really doesnt have a whole lot of time to play. Maybe 1 to 2 nights a week then it may be better for them as you can group up with anyone at any level. Soloing is easy to do as well.

It all depends on how long you want the game to last and how in depth you want it to be. For the short term SWG is a good way to get your feet wet into MMO. For someone looking into something more challenging with in depth quests and more of a social aspect then EQ is the better route.

Especially if you forget your spacesuit!!!

And of course, in space no one can hear you scream.
