Maybe someone can help me out here...
I was wondering if it is worth being a scout as I dont see any benifit at the moment.
I go out hunting and cant kill anything that a level 10 fighter can, I am not that strong.
My stealth skill sucks (I had to upgrade to apprentise level lll just to finish my level 10 quest, which by the way was the hardest one --- several scouts where standing around outside the cache for days trying to finish it)
I can not go into the Caves or Antonia without leaving a few (thats generous) shards around and need help going to rescue them since I fool nothing but the shrubs with my sneak ability.
I have good armor (very light) and good weapon and I know how to use the combo's and lucky break.
Is it worth it? what does scout get that is so good to go through this?
should I break down and create a fighter?
What do you think? |

being scout is all about damage. if you want to solo (at least for the early levels) do NOT play a scout. they are alot like rogues in EQ1, that is high damage but made of paper.
consider tho in EQ1 the ranger class was gimped for the first 3 years but came into it's own end game.
on the opposite side monks were UBAH for the first 3 years and then got nerfed to oblivion...
so play what you like to play, all classes will cycle through power phases, right now you are just low. if you want to slash and hack AND solo you might consider a fighter class, but be prepared to give up alot of cool abilities including archery (eq1 archery was very powerfull end game)
ps also, from what i hear getting adept stealth really makes a BIG difference _________________

/shrug... I played a scout to level 15 in Beta and I liked it a lot. Only reason I choose not to play one now is that I spent 3 years in EQ1 as a Ranger and I wanted to branch out into something new, so I went Druid.
As for the class quest - they must have made it a lot harder since Beta, because it was pretty easy when I did it.
Basically, I get the feeling that all the classes (at least early on) are equally capable of soloing. Granted some are easier than others, but once you figure out the "trick" of your class you can usually get it down to a science. Have you tried playing with the Heroic Opportunities much? They are invaluable while soloing.
Plus, you have to remember... scouts branch out into more than just "rogues and rangers" - there are BARDS! $$$ In EQ1 there was no more versitle, solo friendly class than the Bard! Granted, you had carpal tunnel after a month of playing a Bard... but it was a small price to pay for such power and greatness!!!
From what I've seen you post here, you seem to like tradeskilling much more than adventuring anyway... so you might want to concentrate on that and pump as much exp into that as you can and be a scout secondarily. I'm sure folks in the guild will be happy to help you hunt when you need to in order to support your tradeskilling.
Any way you look at it, it all boils down to - Do what is the most fun for you! That's all that matters! |

I tried about 4 different characters before I finally settled on a shaman in EQ1. You try on different classes until you find the one that "fits". You should continue your scout, but you might think of testing out another class and see how you feel adventuring with it vs. tradskilling. _________________

Scouts are great. I play mostly melee classes anyway but these guys rock, granted the armor stinks, but more fun then standing toe to toe with a mob.
Try and find yourself a few deceit dual wield weapons(preferably one slash, one pierce) and a bow. A few pointers to solo.
You can snare a target and blast with arrows and finish with melee.
Melee a mob at your level.
After your first sneak/shadowblade. You are meleeing mob, hit sneak, when sneak hits 80%, hit melee off (~), then hit ambush. Next hit cheap shot when cheap shot hits 80%, hit melee off (~), then hit sneak attack. Rinse repeat. And throw in a few quick strikes as cheap shot and sneak attack repop.
You can always start a heroic opp
Hit lucky break, then hit evade, then quick strike to start.
Hey, Im new at this, but it sure is fun, will it work all the time, no, but its fun tryin.
