the graphics in eq2 look so much better with everything moving heh...that scene was amazing...
btw..Has anyone else noticed that the movie is a bit laggy? Tried it on 3 computers and its the same on each one...Then again all the eq2 movies seem that way... _________________

aparantly at fan fair even the game demo ran choppy... and that was on an uber set up... that's the only thing that has me worried (other than regular $oE policies lol). what's the point of having stunning graphics if your PC can't handle it? _________________

I've always thought EQ2 looked a little plastic... the models are really high quality but they look really fake. I think lower polygon models could look more real... I think I like SWG/City of Heroes models better than EQ2's, something about the appeareance just bothers me.
And yeah, I suspect EQ2 will run choppy even on an extremely high-end machine. If the engine for EQ is any indication, they have issues making graphic engines. And nothing with that many shadows and polygons will run fast, no matter how good your engine is. Notice that there's never more than a few people on screen at once in their demos? Imagine walking through an area with even 20 characters...
I hope this is all proven wrong, but we'll see. |

Video lag, probably what you're experiencing here, depends on the video acceleration on your video card. This is a very beefy movie, so computers without a $80+ video card will probably lag playing the video back. Also, if you're trying to stream the movie, instead of download the whole thing, it could be internet lag. Either way, the video is somewhat laggy on my work machine but runs smoothly at home.

Game lag depends on your quality settings. After watching several videos from the fan faire I finally heard one presenter say that the person who set up the EQ demo machine was 'overzealous,' so they shut down for a while to adjust the quality settings to match the machine. People who visited Fan Faire said that the game ran smoother when they came back.

The devs have stated on different message boards that even the most high end stations won't be able to run EQ2 at highest quality settings to stay ahead of the hardware market at least for a few years, but that you can tune them down for your needs.

Ok, number 1 it's not fair to try and equate a graphic engine upgrade on top of an engine they didn't even make, to a brand new engine. Number 2, I think the DX9 upgrade for EQ went very well, and while their collision model took a good month to work out the kinks, it's certainly a better game/engine than it was before. Number 3, this engine is the SWG engine with improvments, which is good and bad. Good because it allows for complex animation and immersiveness, bad because:

SWG was awful running into a city or some place that was even slightly dense, but once you stopped running it would get better =/. EQ2 keeps saying that most content will be tuned for around 6 people, and I hope they stay true to that. Max raid/group size is 24 people, and they better stick to that number, because I'm sure computers won't be able to handle much more than that. But really, that's good to me. You shouldn't need 80+ people to do encounters, and small guilds should be able to survive. That means events will be ok, but around town there might be places that attract a lot of people. |

Yea, the bazaar was a mistake for EQ. I'm sure it will have some kind of offline trade system, like SWG, so people don't have to leave a trader on, which is rediculous.
The problem places will be banks, tradeskill locations, taverns and transport junctions (not sure how this will work in EQ2). Even if they tried to spread these out, there's invariably a bank that is most popular that most of the people will be at. |

Just as you said Lud!!! There will be a specific area or terminal that will be the hang out spot. EC had it for a while till the bazaar. In SWG from what i heard and what the server we played on was Correllia because it was the central point of all travel.
A Space hub you could call it.
Just learn to dodge those area's of wreck and go out and enjoy the game. _________________ Tanadel Talonleaf - Great Grandchild of Tanadil Truecaller of EQ1---lvl 54 Ranja

| They may be smart and make an option like they just added in the Bazaar - you can "turn off" all the traders so the models don't show up. It makes a HUGE difference running through the Bazaar. You only need to turn them on if you're actually looking to buy something. |

hehe ya but there was never lag in the tunnel. maybe near shaddy where players could really pile up, but i NEVER had trouble in the "tunnel" (i miss the good old days!)
can "turn off" all the traders
if they were really smart they'de make an option where you could turn off other players completely (vantage, cough cough) :p
Max raid/group size is 24 people, welcome back ES!!!!!!
you said it sister _________________

Actually you can leave the traders off all the time (I just wish it would stay off when you camp). Search for an item, then right click on the sellers name. It will point you toward them and make them appear. |
