Is anyone very up to date on the laptop information? Im thinking about purchasing one to mainly use for school and burn DVD's with. It would be important for it to have a long battery life. I don't want one good enough to play video games so its not going to be distracting when im trying to do homework, haha. One more thing I need it to have is wireless internet access.

Well...if anyone know a lot about laptops that is one section of computers that I barely know anything about. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Chris/Ereiam

One thing to remember is that laptops are always much more expensive than desktops. Then the next thing to remember is that when a warranty on a desktop usually wouldn't matter, the warranty on a laptop may be pretty important.

If you buy a laptop from one of the major vendors (Dell) you have the possibily of getting a good deal but there's also a high chance of paying too much. I would try configuring a laptop on at Dell.com and see what the price comes up as and then see if you can beat it.

Back when I was shopping for a laptop I visited this site often: http://www.sagernotebook.com/

For high end laptops they have some very good prices, but it's been a while since I've been there and I never really looked at their low end deals. It seems the big manufacturers have the market on low end cornered, but you have to remember that a DVD burner takes the laptop out of the low end. On this page you can see a very nice Sager notebook with a DVD burner for $1,545: http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/notebooks/product.cfm?ProductType=438. That's a bigger screen and better processor than a laptop from Dell for the same price.

Shop around the Sager site and you can see the prices direct from the manufacturer, then check EBay for sager notebooks at even better prices.

Also keep in mind that every upgrade on a laptop is very expensive, but some are key. You will want 512 megs of ram and a good size hard drive. How big of a hard drive is up to you, but I'd get at least 60gb if you're going to be doing a lot with DVD ripping/burning (I filled up an 80gb harddrive on my desktop way too fast, but that's with games as well).
